Being Human Festival

A Deep (Subjective) Ache, Being Human Festival Re-Humanising Medicine, Contact

‘Humanising Medicine’ – an exhibition at Bart’s Pathology Museum.

Queen Mary’s University of London and King’s College London have collaborated to bring an exciting exhibition ‘Humanising Medicine’ to Bart’s Pathology Museum.  This evening of art and talks is part of the Being Human Festival and I am so pleased to be showing three new works.

This year the theme of Being Human Festival is ‘Discoveries and Secrets’. However, Queen Mary’s and King’s College have taken this overarching theme one step further with a more intimate narrative – ‘This Time it’s Personal’. I think this is an apt lens to explore modern medicine through. If I have learned anything through my recent experiences being interviewed for BBC Radio 4’s ‘D for Diagnosis‘, and taking part in research with King’s College, the days of broad overarching diagnosis and sweeping statements are coming to an end – medicine and science are becoming personal.

Fabrizio Paterlini’s Microstories

Fabrizio Paterlini - Piano Microstories Publication

Fabrizio Paterlini – Piano Microstories Publication

I am so pleased to announce that I have been selected for Fabrizio Paterlini’s latest publication ‘Piano Microstories’.

‘Internationally acclaimed Italian pianist and composer Fabrizio Paterlini creates melancholic musical compositions, predominantly working in the vernacular of Neo-classical or minimalism. His unique sounds are both visceral, emotive and indeed offer a complexity which is sometimes regarded as ethereal.

Paterlini’s most recent project emphasizes the notion of the current moment stating, ‘How many emotions can you feel in one minute?’.

The publication aims to be a multidisciplinary piece of art that combines photography and poetry in response to Paterlini’s one minute piano scores.’ – Gemma Land and Ravinder Surah

Perceptions

Of Distance, Artist Book, Perceptions Exhibition Exhibition opening night at the PR1 Gallery

An exhibition by technicians ‘Perceptions’ at the PR1 Gallery.

‘Perceptions’, an exhibition by University of Central Lancashire technicians, opened on the 20th September 2019 in UCLan’s PR1 Gallery.

Curated by darkroom specialist Joanna Garrett, the exhibition highlights works by the University’s Creative Industries Support Technicians.

It has been a great experience showing previously unseen works along with my new book series ‘The Gaps Between‘. New works include screen prints made using MRI data from recent scans at the Center for Neuroimaging Sciences at King’s College London. (Read more about that here.)

Other works include a print from my series ‘Location Adrift‘ an experimental darkroom project. Through this project, I am exploring feelings of disorientation and dissociation that occur whilst in liminal places.
